Tracey Zimmer-Taylor  RNC-OB, CDDONA

NYGenWeb Tioga County Coordinator

Town/Village of Newark Valley Coordinator

Tracey's genealogy journey started with birth of her first son in 1996, when the internet was in its infancy.  For the last 25 years, she has researched her Tioga County roots, and is descended from many of the first German settlers of the Newark Valley area.

Born in Endicott and raised in Newark Valley, she graduated from Newark Valley High School, Class of 1988, and attended Broome Community College, where she majored in Early Childhood Education with a minor in Vocal Performance.  After living in Apalachin for 4 years, Tracey relocated to Tucson, Arizona and returned to school at the University of Arizona, Pima College School of Nursing,  graduating in 2006.  She is an RN at Banner University Medical Center in Tucson, certified and specializing in high risk Labor & Delivery, and has 2 grown son's, who also live in Tucson.

Tracey had  been using the vast resources of the USGenWeb, and specifically the Tioga County site, for many years while researching her history.  In Sept of 2020, she reached out to the site coordinator, Mr. Ernie Miles, to offer her help with maintaining the county page, only to discover via email from his daughter, that Mr. Miles had passed away that August.  She then reached out to the NYGenWeb state coordinators,  Mr. Robert Sullivan and Mr. Timothy Stowell, to inform them of his passing.

Shortly after being notified, Bob and Tim asked Tracey if she would fill the gap left by Ernie's passing, who had coordinated the Tioga County site since its inception in 1998.  They felt that having a  Tioga County native as coordinator would give the site new depth and a personal touch.  After some thought on the massive job this could become,  Tracey took on the challenge and is hoping to find other native Tioga County people who will join her.

Dorothy (Dee) Douglas-Picking ASFS, BAHistory

Town of Candor Coordinator

Dee's love of history and genealogy was passed on through stories told by her great grandfather James F. Johnson.  Jimmy was raised in Candor and lived his final years in Newark Valley.  Dee has genealogical roots throughout Tioga County, primarily in Candor.  Dee still has family in the area that she visits when she is able but lives in Southcentral PA with her father.

Growing up in several places in Tioga and Broome counties, Dee was a third generation graduate of Newark Valley HS; class of 1989.  She left the area in the early 90s to pursue a career in emergency services and spent 22 years as a firefighter and paramedic.  Dee also spent 17 of those 22 years in the military; retiring from the Air Force in 2011.  Dee has an associates in Fire Science, a BA in History with a public heritage concentration, and is looking to complete a MA in American Studies. While traveling and researching her 2X great grandfather's Civil War service, she found/started her second career as a historic interpreter and park ranger for the Maryland Park Service at the Battlefield of South Mountain near Boonsboro, MD.

For the past ten years, Michelle has researched her family history. She has traced her roots throughout Tioga and surrounding counties.

Of the many interesting finds includes her 5th great-grandfather Captain David Rich, who built his tavern in 1795 and became the first settler in Caroline, New York.

She currently resides in South Carolina with her husband and three daughters. She's a 2009 graduate of Dryden HS. After graduation, she began her long-term career in health care.
